WUSSY formed on a dare in 2001 when retired stonemason Chuck Cleaver (formerly of ASS PONY) and Lisa Walker began playing together as result of Cleaver’s stage fright. The band’s newest member, John Erhardt, has helped WUSSY truly come into its own, adding a David Gilmour-esque layer of heavy shoegaze pedal steel. Cleaver and Walker share singing and songwriting duties, trading lead vocals, harmonising in patterns on top of one another. Both are known for sharing tales of the supernatural combined with day-in-the-life portraits, both disquieting and tranquil. WUSSY have evolved over the last decade to become forerunners of New Midwestern Psychedelia. The band has been heralded by critics for both their songwriting and varied sonic palette, often drawing comparisons to admitted heroes, TELEVISION, VELVET UNDERGROUND, CRAZY HORSE, and YO LA TENGO. A power-trio of sorts, Chicago's NORTH BY NORTH play with more angular, heavy rock that's veers in spastic-but-anthemic directions. The band celebrated the release of their first LP in 2014. The record is called, Something Wicked, which is the perfect titled for the ball of hook-laden, noisy fury they've created in all EIGHTEEN songs. Fans of fuzzy, bluesy rock'n'roll aren't gonna want to miss their set tonight - be sure and pick up a copy of the record on your way out. Psych-rock crusaders CALLIOPE is a Milwaukee four-piece forged between the forces of the sun and the moon in a dingy basement in 2011. Their organ-heavy, self-titled debut (2013) showcased their reverberated garage rock vibe while the most recent album, Obis, captures the sonic amalgamation of electric fuzz, droning organs, thundering drums, crushing bass and soulful vocals. CALLIOPE has taken their sideshow rock circus to venues and festivals across Midwest, opening for such acts as our pals WHITE MYSTERY and THOSE DARLINS. Chicago psych-rock quintet DEAD FEATHERS kick things off, bringing their celestial grooves, fuzz-driven riffs and soaring female vocals to our stage for the very first time.

    Alternative Rock

Wussy are a four-piece rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio fronted by ex-Ass Ponys frontman Chuck Cleaver and Lisa Walker. The two began performing together in 2001 as a result of Cleaver's stage fright when asked to perform a brief run of solo shows. The duo's first show was largely unplanned and still went without incident.. so they agreed to continue and expand. Mark Messerly joined in 2002 as bassist and utility man, and Dawn Burman joined on drums shortly thereafter. The four-piece released three full-length albums and one EP on their native Cincinnati's Shake It label. Their work has met with critical praise from Rolling Stone and SPIN, both of which gave the band's second and third albums four stars each, in addition to favorable reviews from Village Voice, NPR, Washington Post, Uncut, and many other press outlets. The "Dean of American Critics" Robert Christgau placed the band's first two albums (Funeral Dress and Left for Dead) on his Best of the Decade list, and their third album (Wussy) ranked tenth in his best of 2009 Dean's List. Burman left the band in early 2009 and was replaced by veteran Cincinnati drummer Joe Klug. The re-vamped lineup toured the Eastern U.S. throughout 2009 and recorded two vinyl-only singles. The first is a split single on Karate Body Records with Louisville's The Fervor, released in 2009. The second (a cover of Dusty Springfield's "Breakfast in Bed") is an upcoming part of Shake It Records' newest series - Dangerous Highway, A Tribute to the Songs of Eddie Hinton.

North by North began in Fall of 2011 in Chicago, IL. Originally a drum and guitar blues-punk duo, Nate Girard and Kendra Blank spent the winter of 2011-2012 in a converted warehouse writing material that would later be rearranged around their current lineup and released as their debut, double LP, "Something Wicked," almost 3 years later. Bringing on various members to fill out behind the drums and shifting Kendra's role to keyboardist allowed North by North to delve into more intricate song-writing to couple with the raw power of their previous incarnation. Their sound has been meticulously crafted to feature the juxtaposition of infectious melodies, haunting lyrics, and bombastic live instrumentation; all of which have been lauded by audiences and critics throughout the U.S. Influenced by the shadowy, dark majesty of Queens of the Stone Age and the downright possessed guitar work of Jack White, North by North have sweated it out in basements and clubs over the last few years, working up to just what Something Wicked turns out to be: a spastic, yet finely-honed journey to where garage rock, 70's psych and arena anthems meet. Once there, the band sounds completely at home, taking the listener through literate tales of mystery that are painted with frantic guitar, whirring organ, and heart-pounding rhythms.

Pistoletta” is what NXN fans have come to expect from the trio: big vocals and guitars from the Jack White playbook; nods to blues, punk and arena rock; super-sized drums and keyboard embellishments." - Radio One

    Blues-Rock

Calliope is a bluesy psych rock quartet forged between the forces of the sun and the moon in a dingy basement in 2011. Their organ heavy self-titled debut (2013) showcased their reverberated garage rock vibe and was hailed as, “a rollicking collection of retrofitted psychedelic blues songs,” in the spirit of the Doors and The Animals. Since then, Calliope has taken their sideshow rock circus to music venues and festivals across Midwest; opening for acts such as White Mystery and Those Darlins.

Currently the band is touring their sophomore release, ‘Orbis.’ Recorded in a remote cabin in the northern woods of Wisconsin, Orbis captures the sonic amalgamation of electric fuzz, droning organs, thundering drums, crushing bass and soulful vocals. The end is a result is 26 minutes of heavy grooves drenched in reverb. The album is available both digitally and on limited press of opaque red vinyl.
